Well, it’s pizza dough – whole wheat pizza dough.
And, it’s a ham and cheese sandwich.
And, it has crisp dill pickles.
So, I guess we’ll call it a Ham & Cheese Pizza Pickle Roll!
Make sure to serve with a big glob of stoneground mustard.
That’s the “icing on the cake,” or the “mustard on the sammy,” in this case!
Ham & Cheese Pizza Pickle Roll
1 recipe Homemade Pizza Dough (subbing 1/2 the flour with whole wheat flour, if desired)
1 lb. ham, thinly sliced
6 oz. Swiss cheese (or Provolone), thinly sliced
1 large dill pickle, sliced into rounds
stoneground mustard
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
Prepare the pizza dough as directed.
Divide the dough into 2 rounds and then roll out into “rough,” smaller rounds.
Divide the meat and cheese in half and layer over the rolled out rounds.
Top with pickle slices.
Fold in the side edges and then roll.
Transfer to a parchment lined baking sheet and bake for about 20 minutes, until golden brown and oozing melted cheese.
Remove from the oven, cut in half, and serve with globs of stoneground mustard.
